The Greeks and Romans used to call marjoram the “joy of the mountains,” or “wintersweet” so it’s not a stretch to assume that this oil can bring the user joy, helping relieve stress and anxiety by lifting the spirit and promoting positivity. The oil also supports nerve tension, pain relief, cardiovascular and respiratory issues, sore muscles.

Marjoram has been used in culinary dishes, imparting a unique flavor to soups, stews, dressings, and sauces: in Germany, this herb is known as the “Goose Herb” for its traditional use in roasting geese. In modern applications, Marjoram is valued for its calming properties and its positive effect on the nervous system. It also supports both healthy cardiovascular and immune systems

Applied in a 1:1 ratio with a carrier oil, begin or advance your marjoram use with the following five protocols.

Arthritis

Marjoram helps soothe pain, especially that of arthritis, by stimulating circulation and combatting inflammation. You can alleviate arthritis through a topical application. Simply dilute and massage into the affected area.

Bacterial Infections

This antibacterial oil can fight off infection through internal use – a drop in your drinking water – aromatic use – diffusion or direct inhalation – or topical use – applying the diluted oil topically to the affected area and to the body’s reflex points. Alternatively, add a few drops to your bath water and have yourself a relaxing antibacterial soak.

Blood Pressure

Strengthen cardiovascular health, protect against heart issues, and regulate blood pressure through a topical marjoram application. Dilute accordingly and apply over the heart in a circular motion and into the reflex points of the feet.

Expectorant

Marjoram can support the respiratory tract by draining the lungs of excess mucus. Apply topically, diluted, to the chest and the body’s reflex points, 1-2 times a day. Or use the steam method – steam two drops of the oil in a pan of boiling water. Remove the boiling water from the stove and, after pouring into a separate bowl, put a towel over your head and the bowl. Inhale deeply.

Stress

As mentioned, the “joy of the mountains” can rid of daily storm clouds, like depression or stress. Try adding a few drops of marjoram to your bathwater or a diluted topical application, applied to your chest, the top of your head, and the reflex points. Alternatively, you can use lavender aromatically by inhaling directly, diffusing throughout the room, or using the cup-and-inhale method – simply place a drop in your palms and rub them together then, cupping your hands over your nose, and breathe deeply and calmly in and out. Do this for several minutes or until the craving has passed.

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.

Internal use: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.
